Easy Homemade Dog Treats!
Bake-up some of these “Barkies” today! All you need are 4 simple ingredients! Your doggie will love them! Woof woof!
Step 1:
Grind up some oats in a chopper, blender or food processor to make oat flour.
Step 2:
Mix-up the wet ingredients: peanut butter, egg and banana
Step 3:
Combine all ingredients and stir together.
Step 4:
Form into balls and flatten with a fork.
Step 5:
Bake!
Peanut Butter and Banana “Barkies” (Dog Cookies) Recipe
Homemade Dog Cookies with peanut butter and banana! You can bake these to whatever size or texture your dog prefers: chewy or crunchy!

Servings: 20 Dog Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups old fashioned rolled oats divided
- 1/2 banana cut into 4 chunks
- 1/4 cup peanut butter no artificial sweeteners*
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or grease.
- Place 1½ cups oats in chopper or small food processor. Process until ground to a flour texture. Pour into a medium-sized mixing bowl.
- Place banana, peanut butter and egg in chopper or small food processor.
- Process until well combined, scrape down bowl and process some more, if needed.
- Pour mixture into bowl with oat flour. Add the remaining ¼ cup of (unground) oats.
- Stir together.
- Scoop 1-tablespoon portions and roll into balls. (or make whatever size your dog prefers)
- Flatten with the tines of a fork in a criss-cross pattern.
- Bake for about 15 minutes for a softer center. (based on 1-tablespoon size)
- Let cool on baking sheet.
- Store in air-tight container for a few days or in the refrigerator/freezer for longer.
Notes
Only serve your dog treats that contain safe ingredients for him/her. When in doubt, check with your veterinarian. Peanut Butter should not contain artificial sweeteners (Xylitol is dangerous for dogs.)

Thanks for a great recipe! Four paws up from my fur children here. I love giving them treats that I know are good for them. One of my dogs needs softer treats due to issues with a growth in her mouth that requires surgery and constant monitoring. Both dogs are older, rescues, spoiled, and extremely special.

Tina if I would make these cookies more on the chewy side, how long should I bake them?
Depending upon the size you make the cookies – it will vary – but start watching them at 10-12 minutes and remember they will firm up even more while cooling.
Thank you for telling people about xylitol. Many don’t realise it is in peanut butter and toxic to dogs

Hi there Heidi – You can bake them less time for a softer texture. You could also try these treats that are unbaked Ruff, Ruff Truffles: Pumpkin & Peanut Butter Dog Treats or these softer treats Carrot and Applesauce Chewies (Homemade Dog Treats)

My senior dog, Bitty loves these! I reduced the cooking time by 3 minutes and I keep a slice of bread in the container to keep them soft. They look so yummy, in fact that my 24 year old daughter mistook them for cookies and ate 4.

I fix these all the time! My dogs go crazy for these and I have 4 of them so I make 4 times this recipe so that I have enough to last a while. I tasted one and it’s pretty good. Needs a little sugar for me but I like the fact that I know exactly what’s in these and so much cheaper than store bought.

Homemade dog treats don’t have preservatives, so they don’t last as long as commercially made ones. If the shipping would only take a couple days, you’d probably be fine.

I use various brands. You want to make sure to avoid any that contain artificial sugars such as Xylitol.
My yellow Labrador, 6 mo old and 52 lbs… gives them a paws up! He was trying to get to the wet mixture when I was using the food processor. He was eagerly awaiting for them to come out of the oven. I’m not sure a serving size but I don’t think they will last thru tomorrow. 🙂

My Kashi(3 years), Sammy(4 months) and Fern (3 months) all LOVED these!! I made them in small balls and then squished them slightly to use for training treats!!
I’ve never seen a 3 months old learn to sit so quick! Thankfully she saw Kashi get a treat for sitting and caught on pretty quick. Will definitely have to make WAY more of these next time!
