Ingredients
- 1 (5 ounce) can tuna packed in water drained
- 1/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese can swap with finely grated carrot if your cat can't have dairy.
- 1 egg
- 1 1/3 cups oat flour plus extra for dusting
- 1 tablespoon dried catnip (optional)
- 1/4 - 1/2 cup cold water
Instructions
- You can make your own oat flour in a food processor: 1 ½ cups old fashioned oats makes about 1 1/3 cups oat flour.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In food processor mince tuna and cheddar until it's a fine texture. Add egg, oat flour, catnip and pulse together.
- While running on low drizzle in cold water slowly until the dough pulls together into a ball. You may not need all the water.
- Divide dough ball into 4 smaller balls, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Sprinkle a little extra flour on a work surface. Roll each ball into a long “snake”. Use a knife to cut “snake” into small pieces. Roll each piece into a ball (about the size of chick-pea). Flatten gently with a fork.
- Continue until you have used all the dough.
- Bake for about 10-15 minutes, depending on texture you would like; softer or harder.
- Let cool completely. Store in refrigerator for a week or freeze for longer.

cats are lactose intolerant so should not be having any cheddar cheese!
Christina Verrelli
Thanks Maria! – You should only feed your cat what you and your veterinarian decide is best.
Brenna
Only some cats are lactose. I have three cats and only one of them is, though it is common in cats.
Jules
Our kittys love cheese and we use lactose free cheddar
Merri
That’s why it says to use carrots if your cat can not have dairy.
neive

Do these have to be stored in the fridge or will an airtight container work too?
Christina Verrelli
Yes – best to store in fridge or freezer.
Sarah
Hi can I use wholemeal flour instead of oats flour ?
Christina Verrelli
Whatever your cat tolerates! You may need to just play around with the amount in case it absorbs differently than the oat flour.
Emma
Can I use all purpose flour? I have been making some cat treat recipes too, I am only 11 though, so i can’t share them 😁
Christina Verrelli
As long as it is safe for you cat, yes you can.
Vaida

My cat loves everything and anything dairy….no issues. Thanks for the recipe!
Tina Biscaino
My cat loves chicken more than the tuna and other seafood products, can I use chicken instead of the tuna.
Christina Verrelli
I think that would be fine Tina – as long as it’s safe for your cat. MEOW!
Jen
Sounds yummy for my kitties, but I don’t put that much effort into baking my Christmas cookies, lol!
Christina Verrelli
LOL! I get it!

I’m so grateful I found your site. As prices soar my cats who love treats are getting less and less of them. I have most of the ingredients already so I am thrilled. Now to see who likes what. Most of my cats are ferals having been left by the road in the park where I live. Thanks again.
Christina Verrelli
Hope they like them Betsy – thank you for rescuing!
Desiree
I’m making this for my kitties today! I know they’ll love them as they all love tuna and cheese. I’ve made sure that they all tolerate dairy just fine. I got no salt added tuna for them and am going to use the tuna water in place of plain water, just because I think it’ll add even more tuna flavor for them.
I started making my dogs treats and the cats went berserk. So I thought, well, they deserve homemade treats too!
Jennifer
I have 7 cats and they love tuna. I’m so exited to give this a try looks like a really easy recipe to make. I will give you an update and see how they like it.
Christina Verrelli
Hi Jennifer! I hope they enjoy!!!
